I don't love his music, I don't own any of it (my ex wife did though, so I've heard almost all of it). I believe that he is a tremendous songwriter. It's not well known but he has written a great many huge hits that he himself never recorded, rather, writing them for others. Chaka Kahn and Sinead O'Conner come to mind. Moreover, when the whole digital music downloading thing started to froth from Metallica's lawsuit, he stood up and wrote an incredible essay. I read it somewhere on his PaisleyPark website about 5 years ago. I tried looking for it now but failed to locate it. He wrote about the LOVE of music that a FAN has. That downloading shouldn't be considered evil, it should rather be considered marketing. He talked about a fan wanting the art, the liner notes, everything about the music and the artist. He believed that artists shouldn't be afraid of downloading. Aside from his annoying habit of replacing letters, articles and prepositions with numbers it was an excellently written essay. It's too bad that it wasn't disseminated to a wider readership. Funny that now such a long time has passed since he wrote it (and in tech 5 years is longer than long) that two academicians have recently published the results of their research showing downloading to not hurt sales. Prince is a smart man, and I respect him greatly. It doesn't surprise me that his fan club is so fan satisfying. Best regards, Mark.
Prince is an overrated whiner who hasn't released a decent album in 20 years and get this changed his name to a symbol. How more arrogant can one get? --- Mark Tigges <mark@numericalmethods.com> wrote:

Perhaps you should find out why he changed it before you disparage him for it. Hint, it wasn't arrogance. On Mon, Apr 05, 2004 at 03:29:09PM -0700, M wrote:
