Hi it's time for another movie question (thanks to all who cared to answer my "Marco Polo"-question...). I just saw "Bringing out the dead" with Nicolas Cage. He plays a paramadic in New York. When he and his partners are called to an emergency they always say "10-4" to show that they understood what was said. Now where does that "10-4" come from? Thanks Dietmar
American police (hey look - I managed to make this thread Sting/Police related!) have a whole range of codes (all beginning with the number 10) that mean different things. 10-4 is one of them, it means "acknowledgement". The codes have later been adopted by "Citizens' Band radio operators", according to my slang dictionary, and are thus used not only by the police. You can see a whole list of the codes here: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/raytoddjr/10code.htm Over & out - I'm off to my 10-11! Mikkel On 16 Jan 2003 at 18:24, DtmrCls@aol.com wrote:
