Hey everyone. found a great website in a magazine today. It's www.archive.org They have been automatically archiving websites since 1996 and have 5x the amount of storage space as the libary of congress. The Sting/Police portion of this is that Stingchronicty is one of their sites (along with many other older pages not available anymore) Really a great site and worth checking out. If you deem this off-topic, please ignore. -Josh
MessageDON'T STAND SO CLOSE TO ME Hello everybody from Giovanni. The second track from the Police derangements is a real gem! This sounds like THE POLICE IN 2002!!! A quiet beginning with more rythmic background than the original, not too much, with the volume of the guitar a little higher than the original (two original chords from the beginning of the track). The highlight of the track is that Stewart used part of the sound of the original master from 1980 and part of the vocal from the 1986 version, and the result kicks ass!!! The armony is a little bit different, there aren't the usual two notes of the bass, typical for this song at the beginning, but an armonic progression that gives the song a real new cool vibe! Stewart added a few touches of piano and keyboard background, very soft, very easy, and the voice comes out in a fantastic way. Some changes in the structure gives it a new sound, and it's so incredible to hear how actual is this song even now! This could be without problem a NUMBER ONE in the first week of release!!! The only problem is the main refrain, where all the vocal melodies are a little bit confusing; the refrain is not like the original one, as the bass line is different and the vocals from the original 1980 and 1986 are mixed together on a different background, even if it is a real pleasant listening as well. There are many guitar riffs and sound coming out in a brilliant way, some parts have been sampled and repeated during the song. I can hear a sort of 'orchestral' attitude in this song, mainly in the refrain; here you can listen a lot to Stewart kind of composing, arranging and attitude. The sound in general could really be like the Police now, but this is only a personal opinion, as THE POLICE are linked to those times, and I don't personally think that the three of them could be THE POLICE again in 2002/2010; I'd like to see them linked to a certain period of the music, that was it, that was the right time, that was the story. Don't get me wrong, but listening to this stuff makes you think a lot about that, and THE LEGEND can't be touched. Those re-works have a fantastic spirit, and it would be great to see them published, but we are talking about something we have already lived; I think that if the band will ever come on stage again, they could probably reworks the songs in this way, with different bass lines, different vocals, different guitar riffs maybe, that would be really clever, but again, we are taking about something from the past....and I think that's the reason why they never did it..... ..they would kick asses anyway! Ciao ciao Giovanni Ps.: next song will make you feel chills........be ready for your new cup of Tea In ....
