hey! look at THIS. if mick and jonesy can do it... 16 NOVEMBER 2002 It had never looked like being an ordinary gig. Acton Town Hall was filled to capacity with Firefighters and their supporters. Union leader Andy Gilchrist spoke about the recent strike and explained that ever since seeing The Clash at the 1978 Rock Against Racism Carnival, had wanted to share a stage with Joe. The band took to the stage with a fantastic reception from the crowd. In a very relaxed atmosphere they treated us to a fantastic set. At the end of the set Gilchrist and a striking firefighter presented Joe with bronze firefighter statue. As the band returned for an encore a familiar figure could be seen by the side of the stage. During Bankrobber, the unimaginable happened. Mick Jones joined Joe on stage for the first time in nearly twenty years. That was followed by White Riot and a thunderously appreciated version of London's Burning. Speaking to Mick and Joe afterwards, they assured me that it had not been planned at all. Mick saying that the moment just felt right to do it. They both agreed that it had felt good to be sharing the stage again. Joe pledged his support to the striking firefighters and said that all public sector workers needed to be treated better. They make up the fabric of our society and should be entitled to a decent standard of living. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
