Anyone interested in picking the Police or Sting song (is there a difference?) as to which they favor live over the recorded version (for the sake of all of us, we shall exclude "Roxanne")? If we get substantial feedback, I'm willing to provide a live version for the best explanation for the choice. I think Karel should be the ultimate judge because he's the King of Sting. Anybody? Great topic! Let's see if we can't kick some life back into this 'lurk-mode' list, shall we?
From the top of my head I would say "The Wild Wild Sea".
The studio version is one of my all time favourites and I think they are some of the best lyrics he - or anyone else, for that matter - has ever written. And still he managed to make it even more magical played live! The version on "Acoustic Live in Newcastle" is a textbook example of dynamics and a group of musicians playing as one entity. That's as far as I can explain it - the song has always struck a special chord within me that I can't explain. All I know is that listening to live versions of it still gives me the chills! Anyone else feel the same way about this song, or is it just me? Mikkel On 6 Jul 2002 at 16:26, Stephen S. Sayad wrote:

That must be I Burn for you performed live in Uruguay in 1990 with Dominic, Vinnie and dear Kenny. Althouh I love the original studio version by the Police, Dominic opens this song with just a guitar playing the way Andy opened on the original version, but much softer so that it becomes very fragile and sensitive ... Vinnie plays brilliant in the finale and Kenny is just the maestro himself. Knowing that Omar Hakim did a drum solo of over 8 minutes in the 1985-86 tour during this song makes it the best live song ever for me followed by ... Owner of a lonely heart by Yes ,-))))). satisfied steve? Bye, Karel
