I think that might have been a case of the father being inspired by the son. I think seeing Fiction Plane live may have prompted Sting to want to "rock out." It's endearing to see the mutual respect the two have for each other. If you listen carefully to Fiction Plane lyrics, you'll notice quite a few lines taken verbatim from Sting's lyrical repertoire... _____ From: police-bounces+f.berthelot=ramsa.com@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:police-bounces+f.berthelot=ramsa.com@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of David Lucky Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2007 5:09 PM To: police@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Police] Broken Music Tour I wondered if Sting is thinking about rocking out sometimes. I mean the Broken Music Tour kind of caught me by surprise when he announced it. Playing with more of a rock band and playing many more Police songs and by inference less Sting solo songs. That was a long tour as well - though not at big venues. To me in essence that could be construed as a bit of a step back for Sting - wouldn't you say. Maybe he is less concerned about what the critics say and doing what he wants to do. What was the marketing point of the broken music tour - he wasn't pushing sacred love really, has no new police material out etc. Yes he had the book but I don't think that tour was really that well connected and just to push the book (beyond the name reference). What do you all think? Playing with the Police at bigger venues, the kind he hasn't played for years now, might be a step up and increase his marketability and exposure so when he does solo stuff again his audience will be re-energized. A hopeful thought.
