Is anyone actually reading "Broken Music"?
It's been out for some time now, but has anyone actually read "Broken Music" yet? I'm truly interested in hearing a review that goes beyond the predictable "it's really great, no make that the best book ever written. Sting is the best and amazes us once again!" type of writeup. Some of us had enough of that when "Sacred Love" was released :) Is it a genuinely interesting and enjoyable piece of writing (i.e., does it stand up on its own) or is it something that's really only for hardcore Sting completists? I've been looking, but cannot find any professional reviews...leads me to wonder if the publisher thinks it can really cross over to non-Sting fans. I received three copies for my birthday (my friends know me too well!). I'll be happy to share my impressions once I manage to get through it (it's not a terribly high priority for me right now). In the meantime, I'm curious about others' thoughts and opinions on the book! -Brian- -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ .
Personally, I am not interested in ones thoughts on the first time he wanked, or about his mothers infidelities. I hate to say it, but I do think it is in slightly poor taste. Having said that, I still hope to get it for Xmas. -----Original Message----- From: police-bounces@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:police-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of bjacob@pop-server.nyc.rr.com Sent: November 10, 2003 10:44 AM To: police@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Police] Is anyone actually reading "Broken Music"? Yes, I've read the book and really enjoyed it. It's more of a psychological memoir. Maybe a book about forgiveness, for his parents and himself. His writing style is quite good, readable and erudite at same time, almost poetic at times. He writes in detail about working with his dad (no real stories about brother and sisters). He also tells us quite a bit about his musical career before the Police, his first marriage, his life as young father. His meeting with Stew and Stew's household is funny, and particularly funny is his CONSTANT mentioning about how fast Stewart drummed. He also writes fully about his experience taking ayahuasca - very interesting. Reads like a past life, though Sting denys believing in reincarnation saying too many people think they were Charles I or Marilyn Monroe (don't know whom he talks to!) Paula
