Sting article in Rolling Stone "500" Greatest Issue
A Sting article appears in this months Rolling Stone on Page 58 The Music Q&A where it has a series of questions that Sting answers in a full page article. Pretty standard stuff but a couple good quotes on stuff like playing with the grateful dead. here is a link http://www.rollingstone.com/news/newsarticle.asp?nid=18984 <http://www.rollingstone.com/news/newsarticle.asp?nid=18984&cf=392> &cf=392 Also this RS has a list of the top 500 greatest albums of all time. Dont read on if you dont want to know the rankings of The Police albums. The Police have a good showing with 4 of their 5 proper albums in the top 500 - only Zenyatta not appearing. The highest being Ghost at 322, Regatta 369, Outlandos 434, Synchronicity 455. These are all lower than top 500 lists done like 10 years ago. I also noted that no Sting album made it in the top 500. But I am glad to see The Police work still to be recognized and lasting - though highest at 322 seems a bit low to me but that what these lists are good at doing - sparking debate. Is anyone on this list surprised Ghost was the top ranked Police album by Rolling Stone magazine?
ItÂs interesting that Ghost would be rated the highest by RS. They gave it a terrible review when it was released 22 years ago. I think they gave it 2 ½ stars and dedicated 3 paragraphs to how sloppy The Police had gotten. I think Every Little Thing was the only thing they found redeeming about the whole album. Now the same magazine considers it their best release. Perhaps they should have rated their own reviews of these Âbest albumsÂ.
