Hi folks, although Stewart's appearance at Germany's biggest music store "Musik Produktiv" in Ibbenbüren-Laggenbeck was shorter than planned (he already left at 5 PM) it was a unique chance to meet this extraordinary guy. Below are the links for the newspaper articles I have scanned: (funny that BOTH articles have the wrong christan name in the headline -> Steve/Steward) Ibbenbürener Volkszeitung 23.07.02 http://mitglied.lycos.de/rhoeckel/020722ivz.jpg -> yes, that's me on the picture...(but as usual on snapshots I look so dumb...:-( typically for me, I always close my eyes when pictures are being taken, grrrrrrr. Anyway, I will go to the newspaper office today and ask for the two pictures which were taken...I hope the other one is a bit better though. BTW, the article says that he signed ALL of my records and books... Fact is that he signed just 4 items (one 7"/12"/CD/book each). Westfälische Nachrichten 23.07.02 http://mitglied.lycos.de/rhoeckel/020722ivz.jpg For all the non-German speaking fans I'd like to sum up the most important news: * As far as Stewart remembers this was his first signing occasion at all. * Stewart still has two big wishes on his mind: He'd like to buy a) a certain amplifier b) a Rolls Royce car (so far his wife has always kept him from doing so) * For his own career a nomination for an academy award would be a goal to achieve. * One article claimed that he had SEVEN children...I doubt that this is true...can anyone give a summary of his children? * He is still in contact with Sting Andy: Often he plays Tennis with Andy and always wins. * Sting is organizing a big birthday party for Stewart in September. [My guess is that both of them are going to celebrate their 50th birthday as Sting couldn't do this last year because of the Sep 11th attacks.] * He claimed to be quite regularly in Germany. [Mmh, I must be blind and deaf at the same time...is he travelling undercover or what?] He enjoyed staying in Germany as the German people were cool. Just the German coffee was to strong for him. OK, from my personal point of view I have to say that Stewart's attitude was really positive, sympathetic and warm. One had the impression that you would meet an old friend - no "star" behaviour at all. When signing my items I brought with me he was especially interested in the UK 12" single of "The Equalizer Busy Equalizing": "Ok, I've never seen this one before...is it a bootleg or what?" As I denied he took a look at the back sleeve and found the I.R.S. Records logo at the bottom: "Oh, I see...yes, my brother always rips me off." He was also surprised to see my CD copy of the Frolkhaven album. He said that he was still in touch with Charles Pendergrass III. (although that is of course not the real name). When talking about Oysterhead his eyes widened and you could see how much he enjoys playing in this group. So far no plans for concerts in Europe have been made as both Les Claypool and Trey Anastasio are quite busy at the moment with their own projects and bands ("Also, I can't afford it to bring them over..."). But they might talk about touring Europe when the next Phish tour is over... BTW, it was also nice to see some familiar faces at Musik Produktiv: Dodo, Sabine, Dietmar, Jost, Volker and the 3 guys of "Europe's finest Police coverband" REGGATTA DE BLANC.
