As if this will even matter....
First of all, in my opinion, no one has the right to demand that someone leave the list. To the best of my knowledge, no one is directly in charge, so statements where people are aggressively told to leave are intolerable. Secondly, I don't want anyone to leave the list. It will then seem that one person "won" this little quarrel, and no one is winning. Thirdly, I've spent the last 8 or 9 years justifying my appreciation of The Police and it's members' music to my friends. I never thought that we would ever have to justify our liking for the music to the members of this list. No, we are not going to all enjoy the same songs that these people record. In fact, we are not going to like all of them. I can name a few songs that I personally have never really enjoyed, but someone else does, and to me, that's great; however, I can most of the time give at least some sort of explanation for the reason I do not enjoy the song. This list is meant to be a discussion among people across the world that enjoy the same type of music though. Some of that discussion is going to be how we do/don't like some of the material and hopefully why this is true. I would like to think that we could all be civil about it. My sneaking suspicion is that some of us want to think that our musical tastes are the best. I have some friends who hate anything that is not independent, because they want to feel like they have higher musical tastes. I've tried to tell them that the reason some bands are popular is that they make good music. It is impossible for them to comprehend. It is also difficult for them to understand how someone could like The Beatles/Barenaked Ladies/Radiohead/Weezer/White Stripes/Sting/Police/Eminem/Outkast too, but I do and I don't care what they think. I can justify my reasons to myself, and that's all that matters. I do listen to the reasons they may not like some of my music though, and may agree that they have rational reasons, but I still like my music. Overall, everyone needs to relax a little. We're not going to agree with everything on this list; however, if you're going to take the time to send a message of like/dislike, at least send some justification. E-mails of "I love it!!!! Sting is Hot!!" can really be just as bad as "It sucks...get over it." Ross PS. I joined this list the fall of my freshman year of college. It was awesome to me. At times it still is; however, over the past 4 years, there have been spats like this that have ended poorly. I hope this one ends differently. Sorry that I'm not the most articulate person either. Hopefully this wasn't too wasteful of anyone's time.
