Re: [Police] Sting's comment in 2003 on a Police reunion
Hey! My take on all this from the beginning has been the following...that Sting woke up one day in late 2006, with SACRED LOVE doing lousy and the lute album barely making a dent with us and realized the only way to stay relevant was to FINALLY reunite. And what a brilliant stroke it was....put the $$$$ aside for a moment and think about it...he was the driving force around the highest grossing tour of 2007, one of the most anticipated tours in the last few decades, playing tunes he could play in his sleep. And all the while, he has probably been writing new tunes - tunes that could have wound up on a new Police studio record, but that is another story! - for his next solo record which will probably be heralded by everyone when it comes out in 2009 or 2010. I may have bashed him here for years and years for not reuniting, his solo tour setlists, etc...but one thing I NEVER did was say he was dumb. Incidentally...I paid $260 for a 15th row ticket to their 8/4/08 show at Jones Beach, thinking it was to be the last show they'd ever play. Imagine my horror to discover this show is now their SECOND to last show, that the last show will be the next night. My bet is Madison Square Gardens (or some other venue with a "real" name to it) a few days later - perhaps on Friday the 8th or Saturday the 9th. Of course, they won't announce that show until after the 2nd Jones Beach goes on sale this Saturday..just a hunch..but I'm willing to bet on it. Food for thought, anyway. That's my strong suspicion as well - so buyer beware. sockii
There is a large part of me that feels this whole "last show, end of the tour" etc etc is a big wool pull, but what if it is the very last show, and what if I miss out :-( I'm willing to wait a week before buying a ticket. I'll just keep my memories with me, untarnished. I'm glad to see some of you get to see them one last time at nice venue, though! Shea Stadium will be closed by then, I think. Plus, they have played in the New York area too many times on this tour now to sell out something that big. I still thing Madison Square Gardens is a good bet. The second show was announced on Tuesday (I think), the fanclub pre-sale was yesterday, and the public tickets go on sale Saturday.
