Ok, guys, there we go! With my trip to Newcastle still long ahead (is it in November, the gig I mean), I try to figure out how to spend my weekend there in a way that every self-respecting Sting's fan would do it. In style, so to speak! :-) Firstly I've heard that Sting's brother Philip is running a pub in Newcastle so if you know it's name (or even better it's address too), I'd be happy to hear about it. Secondly from your own experience there, which places did you go and what was made your heart beat faster by visiting it. It's time guys to share your own experience from your trips to Newcastle. Cheers, Panda
It is my understanding that Sting's brother's pub is still closed. It was shut down several years ago by the local government (cannot remember the exact reason why). Hi Hilary! That was quick! :) :) :) Anyway do you have any ideas of it's location or name? Just for a record as I'm not going to broke into a closed property! :) P. -----Original Message----- From: Hilary Justh [mailto:hjusth@knology.net] Sent: Wednesday, September 15, 2004 9:38 AM To: Panda; Police@Mailman. believe it was shut for serving minors? February 2, 2002, Saturday Edition 1 SECTION: NEWS, Pg. 9 HEADLINE: Beach bar opportunity BYLINE: By the Evening Chronicle Seaside bosses have unveiled their own version of Club Tropicana - a la Whitley Bay. Geordies dreaming of buying a beach bar and escaping into the sun can save themselves the air fare and find paradise on their own doorstep. Would-be landlords who fancy themselves serving cocktails and sangria are expected to start bidding for Dune's Bar in Whitley Bay. The beach-front bar, formerly owned by rock star Sting's brother Philip Sumner, was shut in 1997.
Serving underage drinkers if I remember rightly - I think he lost his license. Ironic that the police launched a "sting" on him to catch them serving under 18's.
