Pretty sad looking at this list. I am such a child of the 80's given that I really like(d) a solid third of this list! Michelle in tx (or all the other Michelle's gone now? There used to be several of us--- I could save some keystrokes...) In a message dated 12/5/06 6:39:12 PM, tara.bruce@rogers.com writes:
Much More Music seems to like The Police. I know this was some time ago now, but back in September of 2004 they did a “20 Best of New Wave” and The Police were #1. They even went into a decent explanation of why, though many would not at first consider The Police to have been a new wave band, they deserved to win in this category: First, The Police were there at the beginning of new wave music with a fresh sound and style that brought us into the age of video. Secondly, unlike many bands that just penetrated the North American and European markets, The Police became an international phenomenon. Finally, they referred to The Police’s wide ranging musical influences as well as the virtuosity of each of the band members as musicians. Here is the list from 20 to number 1: A Flock of Seagulls Adam Ant Tears for Fears Joe Jackson English Beat Human League Simple Minds Devo The Cars Talking Heads Depeche Mode The B 52s The Pretenders New Order Elvis Costello The Go Gos Culture Club Duran Duran Blondie The Police Cheers, Bruce in TO

The list has gone to sleep in the last few months….. Not much to talk about!!! But there was a survey done down here by the national broadcaster the ABC, on the fan’s top 100 albums. It’s a joke! No Police or Sting ( I can live with no Sting), but c’mon the Police broke in Australia long before other countries had woken up to them. Here’s the link…. Lists such as these...it is not easy being a Police fan! I have always felt (and probably will always feel) that in the historic sense, they will never get respect they deserve. They always seem to get forgotten about, to be misjudged. Then again, why wouldn't it? They were only the biggest band of the 1980s! Being objective as possible, with my 1000+ cd collection, in all my years I have NEVER heard a band better than The Police - and that statement excludes no other band. The Police rank along side anyone. Best 'ranking' that I have ever seen them have was to be named #10 in a VH-1 survey a few years ago, of the Top 100 Artists of All Time. Good to hear from you, Matt. (And you to, Ms. Michelle.) When you reach #10, you think the struggle ends... Rich --- Mathew Hoffman <mathew@wattobay.com> wrote:
