I just noticed in the membership details on thepolicetour.com that my membership is set up for automatic renewal next year. I'm assuming this is default for everyone. The instructions for changing this include "cacelling" your membership. This kind of crap behavior is what got me in a fight with Classmates.com. Even though I had turned off autorenew, they still kept charging my card until I changed the card number. Why any organization or business thinks that this type of underhanded behavior makes their customers happy is beyond me. If I did this type of crap to my customers without their consent, they'd boil me alive. Pete, Yes, I totally agree with you. I too tried to turn off the renewal and didn't succeed. I think this is very under-handed. If you notice, the website is 'owned' by UltraStar, LLC. Just another big business screwing over the little ones! Here is the text from their website regarding the cancellation policy. I think people should be aware of this!! Cancellation Once your credit card has been charged, your membership is non-refundable, and your Annual subscription will auto-renew until you decide to cancel. When your Annual account has auto-renewed you will have sixty (60) days following the date that any renewal fee is posted to your credit card account, to give notice that you want to cancel your membership; when your membership is cancelled, a credit will be posted to your credit card account equal to the most recent renewal fee charged. For monthly accounts or other accounts with a periodic fee cycle of less than one year, there are no refunds for cancellations. For monthly subscriptions, you must notify us at least 15 days prior to the first day of the next calendar month to avoid being charged the fee for such month. For all other memberships, you must notify us at least 15 days prior to the first day of the next period to avoid being charged the renewal fee for such subscription period. For security, all cancellation requests must be made by the primary contact person on the account who must provide sufficient identification. Any cancellation request shall be effective upon receipt, unless another date is specified in such cancellation request. You can cancel online by visiting your "My Account" area on the site: http://www.thepolicetour.com/members/myaccount We reserve the right to terminate any account and membership at any time, in our discretion, with or without notice to you, if you violate any of these Terms. Any cancellation by us shall not relieve you of any obligations to pay fees accrued prior to such cancellation. This is exactly why I started using the "Virtual Account Number" that Citibank and others offer. They can only be charged to once and expire in 30 days. So these companies can try to renew all they want and it just won't work. Of course I was a little overly-excited, and it takes a few extra steps to use these throw-away numbers, so I didn't use it for the fan club, and just trusted them to treat us right.
