FW: "Every Breath You Take - The Classics" DTS Version
Hello everyone, Thanks for the patience while I questioned the information regarding the "Every Breath You Take - The Classics" DTS release. I think I have finally "uncovered" the answer to the "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da" DTS question. Please read below. And a really big thank you goes out to Craig who has the connections with people in the industry who can help set the record straight! He told me that when A&M supplied him with the master tapes, they could not find the master tape for De Do Do Do. The only thing they had under that name was Stings original 1986 Demo of the same song. He said it was not a multitrack master tape, only a 2 track tape. Andy or Stewart do not appear on the track, its purely Sting's vocal, with all the instruments played by Sting himself. Sting recorded the demo during the 1986 sessions. But due to the arguments with Stewart, and how long it took to record Don't Stand 86, Sting wanted to fuck off once Don't Stand 86 was completed. So because of this, the new version of De Do Do Do only got as far as a demo. As this was the only other track that was going to be re-recorded, but after they completed Don't Stand 86, they never got round to re-recording De Do Do as they left the studio immediatly after Don't stand was finished. So hence the track only got as far as Stings 2 track demo, which is what you hear on the DTS. Bob confirmed there was only 1 master tape which was a 2 track master, whilst all the others were multitracks. De Do Do was the 2 track Sting Demo. I've heard the story about Stewart being on the demo, but it's just a Sting demo. I told Dietmar this story years ago, so you guys now know the truth. Hey Craig,
What can you tell me about the "Every Breath You Take - The Classics" DTS Version. More specifically, De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da. I know it is not the '86 version that everyone talks about and wants.
"When the DTS CD was done, the producers of this disc went back to the original stems of every one of these classic songs to do the 5.1 re-mixes and 20-bit digital mastering. In the case of De Do Do Do, the original stems could not be found in entirety, only the complete drum track could be located. What they also found in its entirety was an original demo of the track by Sting. The DTS version of De Do Do Do is a combination of those two elements remixed in 5.1 DTS Digital Surround."
From what you know, is this the correct story? If it is, where did you learn about it? If you don't mind me asking?
Cheers, Jon
