My fellow Sting fans.... You know, I'm really surprised at all the criticism that Sting's latest music is getting. He has been in a slow progression towards this style of music ever since "Mercury Falling" in my humble opinion. Each album gets more and more "electronic" and "over-produced" as some people seem to be fond of saying. And in a way, I must agree with that assessment. Granted I have not seen him live on the Sacred Love tour as many times as most of you it sounds like, but I did get a chance to see him for this tour in Feb. and the songs do sound different onstage, mostly because they can't be as complicated as in the studio. There's nothing wrong with that, and plenty of bands/musicians sound different onstage than on their albums. I'm sure I'm not imparting any great wisdom here. All my friends, including myself, think that Sacred Love is a great album. I am first and foremost a Police fan however. My friends and I grew up on the Police and there's not a bone in my body that doesn't wish that some miracle will occur, and Sting will awaken from the spell he is under and make amends with Andy and Stewart and return to one of the greatest 3-piece bands there has ever been. I've never been crazy about the direction Sting has taken with his music, but compare it with the cheap pop music that is out there, and it is still a "quality" product in my eyes. Nobody is more brilliant and talented than Sting. Your saying that because of the stage limitations, the songs sound better then the album, right? So even with this, "less wrapping" the concerts are getting bad reviews. Makes me think there might be something wrong with the quality of the product. A good product is a good product even if the wrapping might be bad. One other question, to all of you. Isn't there something we can do to get the message to Sting how we think about his performances. I'm thingking about soeone in a "Meet and, not greet but... Tell him what's on my mind" Quickly jumping off, before causing a riot.! C-ya! Why is no one talking about that? It has been my biggest disappointment with Sting's music. I can't think of a single song on the last album that WOULDN'T have been better with less production! Comparing Sting and Annie is meaningless unless you compare the production values -- after all, we know they both have amazing voices/talent; we, the consumers, only get to see the package they present to us for our consumption, and it's all in the packaging!
