love ms. michelle - beautiful and smart! as for "who is" the police, please... i start with, if you feel the police is merely sting, you are welcomed to that belief. myself, i disagree with that and as a segue, had i been asked to induct them into the R+R HOF, part of my speech would have been as followed: leave this building tonite in full recognition, understanding and appreciation of this band. let no one right them off as cute, pretty boys with a bunch of hits...sting's songs are among the best of all time...but it is the SOUND the three created, the musicianship that was expressed - THAT means more to me than any song could. i think it is much easier to write a good song then it is to create a original sound of music. and, if nothing else, the police were and continue to be one of the most original bands in this history of this institution called rock and roll. or something like that... --- Stingfan222@aol.com wrote:

ooooh, low blow! I don't think it's quite to that extent, but good analogy!
I think Rich had nailed my feelings yesterday when he wrote: "....i feel that the legacy of the police is not held in as high a regard to the world outside this wegpage (sic) - that they are blown off and/or taken for granted, that their uniqueness has not been given its just due. "
I agree with that statement. I was flipping through a book at my sons' book fair last week---"the 25 best bands of this century" and was shocked to see that the Police weren't one of them. I really don't think they are given the respect they are due.
Yes, Sting was the Police, but not without Andy and Stewart. So I guess I'm going on record to say the three of them were the Police. They created a unique sound and energy when they played together THEN. I don't even feel that they'd have it now after seeing the footage from the RRHofF. It didn't give me that feeling that they were the Police again, but then again, I wasn't there. Just three guys playing old stuff together. I thought I was really going to regret not making it to NY that day, but I'll keep my concert memories of 20 years go, thanks!
OK, sorry if I got off tangent a bit. Too much candy already and it's only 10am!
Happy Halloween! Michelle in TX
