hey! as we all know, all 5 police studio albums are absolutely fantastic. it always bothers nme to hear critics say how poor an album "zenyatta" is - that is just not true. take away the singles, the remixes and whatever else and you atill have a GREAT album: "voices", "shadows", "man in a suitcase". awesome stuff... rich --- The Police File <craig@thepolice.fsnet.co.uk> wrote:

Well the ultimate must be Zenyatta Mondatta!...Sting claimed in various interviews that the album was not what it could of been (the album was rushed due to Miles booking anouther tour to cash in on The Police's new found international fame by this point in mid-1980) According to Andy...when the band along with Nigel Gray listened to the playback of all the completed tracks for the album, it sounded dreadful...so amazingly they Remixed the whole album from scratch through the night and finished mixing all the tracks around 4am the next morning.
Adding to this, it did not help matters during the recording of Zenyatta Mondatta, when the band were getting endless phone calls from the Record Company, as the band were under a lot of pressure from the marketing machine to get the album finished on time.
But because of the pressure, in my opinion, they made the best Police album. The Police had perfected 'The Police Sound' even more so than Reggatta De Blanc, until they changed the style which would then become Ghost In The Machine & Synchronicity.
The album broke the guys in the states, and De Do Do Do De Da Da Da became the bands biggest hit since Roxanne. Also back home in the UK, Don't Stand So Close To Me was the biggest selling single of 1980.
Two album tracks from Zenyatta Mondatta became Remix singles, Voices Inside My Head & When The World Is Running Down, were remixed by Roger Sanchez and DifferentGear, with both singles topping the Dance charts in the UK.
It just proves The Police's songs on Zenyatta Mondatta were highly original and very catchy, and have some of the best guitar passages i have ever heard I do not agree that The Police should of been under pressure to record that album, as it can effect the album to an extent but if they were not under any pressure, i don't think they would of put so much into it, as The Police new that this was going to be the big breakthrough album, so they made it the best possible...and i think you can hear that with Zenyatta Mondatta. There was 2 Polls recently....with Zenyatta topping both and making Synchronicity second place!
Even Amazon rate this as the best Police Album!
