Speaking fo which: I know people collect stuff... but I also wonder why we don't have more collections on MP3... I mean, those of us who just want to enjoy the music, and don't have spectacular amounts of money to hunt this stuff down. "They Might Be Giants", for instance, has been around for 20 years. They have a gargantuan catalog of items (as music goes) and a noticeable portion of it is in MP3 format, if you know where to look. So why don't we, as a community, have more of that?
I would love to see something like this for the Police, absolutely. As to why it isn't there already, well, I can think of a number of things involved in setting up such a site that would require a fair amount of organization and effort: -Finding a server/host for the site with adequate space and bandwidth to handle it. Audio files suck up lots of bandwidth. -Keeping such a site up and running would surely involve some financial investment--either by a sole individual or a group of people willing to support the site. -People pooling their audio resources and making them available on the site. I'm sure some folks wouldn't want to put up their rarer recordings, but surely a good start would be shows that have been made available on bootleg cds and lps in the past. Just a couple of thoughts of the top of my head. Really, the first step would be finding someone willing to organize the effort. The rest would follow after that. Otherwise, I don't suppose anyone's ever found record of a pro-taping statement from the band? Because if so, we could submit the Police to furthernet and make shows available via their peer-to-peer network. sockii
