I would think that the remarks about "keeping a band in line" was a reference to his own struggles with his group The Attractions rather than to the tension in The Police. Or at least to both. And as for Sting's remark about Stew, that must have been an obvious tounge-in-cheek - after all, "brothers will be brothers"! Btw, am I the only one a little surprised that it is actually possible to bring a concealed weapon to a thing like this and in times like this... Even if you are Sting ;-) Mikkel
Elvis Costello was the guest host on Letterman last night, and he told the following story about the HOF: He said that he saw Sting walking around the Waldorf with a cane, and he went up to him with concern and asked if he'd had a skateboarding accident or something. Sting replied that he was fine, and that it wasn't really a cane, it was a Victorian sword-stick. Costello said he asked Sting why he was carrying such a thing and that Sting replied, "If that Stewart Copeland comes near me, I'll run him through." He then went on to banter with Bandleader Paul Shaffer, asking how Paul keeps *his* band in line, and Paul said something about ruining their lives later, one at a time . While the whole bit was obviously tongue-in-cheek, one wonders why he brought it up. I am of the impression that we on the list know the extent of the infighting, but that the general public is not as aware of it as we are.
