sting has had an outstanding solo career, no question. i explained just yesterday to a friend of mine that he had a .1000 batting average with me (in terms of me considering every album he ever made (including MF!)was excellent), up until the combo of BND/the 3 BND tour shows (including Central Park) that i "experienced". i think a serious argument can be made that he is the most successful member of a band to go it alone and become a soloist. that being said, i refer back to a post i made earlier in the week, which basically was this: if you took a unbiased poll, presenting john q musicfan a list of police material and sting solo material, then asked john q who he/she would be more interested in seeing perform, i think it would be the police. i continue to consider it a damn shame the way that the contributions of andy and stewart are...taken for granted, as if any drummer and guitarist could have gone in the studio/on the road with sting and "his songs" and that those collaborations would have been just as fruitful, just as great, just as once-in-a-lifetime as sting, andy and stewart playing together. the single greatest reason why i personally consider the police the best band i have EVER heard is the result of that combination: "his songs" and their collective musicianship combining to make "that sound". one is just as important as the other, neither being superior over the other. unfortunately, THIS is the point that most miss and/or overlook. one of my police treaures is the "three ghosts..." bootleg: disc #2 is a recording of a SYNCHRONICITY rehearsal, virtually every song rehearsed turning out to be an instrumental (sting saving his voice). it is absolutely sublime. i highly/greatly recommend it... rich --- Jason Sheldon <jason@digital-solutions.co.uk> wrote:

If he was living off the "legend" of the police, why has he had several hit albums? Why does he sell records to people who weren't even born when the Police were at their height?
He's an established artist in his own right, and while he may certainly be raking in plenty of royalties from the Police hits, you're forgetting who wrote most of them.
I think you're more likely to find that Stewart and Andy have more to gain from the association of being in the Police, despite being extremely talented in their fields, they certainly aren't as commercially succesful as Sting is, so he certainly doesn't need (or claim to be) the link between him and the band.

Subject: [Police] police reunion wont happen
But the fact is that this man has been living off the "legend"of the police since he left the band. Why would he want to reform ,when he already plays police hits all the time and he relies on former police fans to keep his bank balance healthy. you have got to admit his solo work isn't a patch on police material (my opinion) that mans ego split up a band that still had one good album in them at least, but because people still buy his solo stuff ,he has no reason to reform the police . the equation is simple ego=solo stuff /no solo stuff = police reunion
this is only my opinion,so if you feel like you need to abuse me for them dont bother because the delete is within my reach "the police have left the building" end
