that muppet must have been Nek, no?  Italian guy who also looks like Sting and with who sting performed together in milan I believe once ... Giovanni??

[Giovanni] I'm not sure in this case is Nek; he did some recordings on another Police remix release, years before the Different Gear, and that should be the only one. 'Different Gear' is another Italian team, but Nek is not involved.
By the way, I met him last year while I was playing at the Festivalbar in Pistoia, as guitar player for Alex Lloyd, and I introduced myself as Giovanni from the Italian fanzine; the funny thing is that he started saying he met Sting, they sang together (it never happened) , Sting helped him, blah blah blah...then when I said I personally know Sting and been invited at the concert in his Tuscany home, he completely changed his mood; then he couldn't 'lie' anymore to me.
On the contrary, every time he sees me now, he's like..." Hey Giovanni! Hi, how are you, how do you feel, good to see you...blah blah blah.....".
You know what? He's a good singer, he's a good looking guy (you know this is important in this businness, and he writes pretty nice stuff, so WHY THE HELL HE STILL WANTS TO BE A STING LOOK-ALIKE.
If I were him, I would simply do the contrary, I would abandon that image; you know everybody is joking about him on the radios and everywhere because of his 'sort of' imitation or Sting wannabe image!
That's so stupid on his side, having good chances on his own.
He's a friendly guy anyway.

What you heard was the awful cover version of Don't Stand So Close To Me, with some muppet trying to sound like Sting (and he fails to do so!) When The World... would be the DifferentGear Version.
 
A lot of mail order companies are fooled by these Cover versions...except for us hard Police Fans! ;-)
