Ah, the old "Lemon Tree".

I did my own little investigation back when
the debate ran on the Sting newsgroup (alt.fan.sting), and I discovered something interesting:

I knew that it was not Sting singing, because I knew the band Fool's Garden (German, I believe), and the way I remebered the song, it was never one that I could mistake for a Sting song. So I decided to track down the original cd and compared it to the verson floating around on Napster (and Audiogalaxy - remember that one, boys and girls?), and it was undoubtedly the same song, but the Napster version was slightly faster, giving the singer a slightly higher pitch that - admittedly - made him sound very much like Sting.

I downloaded this song from Napster years ago. It was listed as Sting and it sounded so much like him that I never questioned it. I just thought it was him covering another band's song.

I remember several years ago this Lemon Tree song came up on the list and
there being some debate as to whether or not it was Sting - who ever it is
singing for Fool's Garden they really do sound a great deal like him!

I was in a restaurant the other night, and the sound system played a
pleasant little pop tune that I later found out was called "Lemon Tree" by a
German Band called Fool's Garden. The reason I mention this is because, with
all the ambient noise in the restaurant, I thought I was hearing some weird
unknown Sting / Police tune! The lead singer seemed to be doing a fair Sting
impression when he sang the first line, which is almost exactly (musically
-- note for note)the first line of "Wrapped Around Your Finger". It's easily
findable on You Tube if you want to hear what I mean.
Speaking of "I Shall Be Released", I have some fabulous boots by that name
with a bunch of Sting performances that includes the title track. I think
there are 5 CD's in the series -- if there are any more out there, please
let me know -- I am VERY interested!!
Have a great week!
Holly
