I kinda understand on the one hand that people who see and hear many concerts want the setlist to change, but I remember very well the time when there was no internet, and that setlists were less known in advance, and well, I enjoyed gigs much more then. When seeing Sting in 1991 in Torhout (open air festival TW, Belgium), every song was a surprise and a unique experience. And yes, we obtained live recordings, but to a much less extent than many do now. Nowadays, I now bit by bit what they will play and how as I have seen the setlists months in advance, as well as have heard over hundred live recordings by know... Get the point? When the Police performs in a venue, 80% or even more of the people do not know the setlists, nor have they heard them before, well, for them it is a unique experience. I will see them 3 times on this tour, every time with family around. Well, each one of them got surprised with every song. I believe that is the magic after all. They come to see The Police, and that is what they get. If on the other hand, The Police would do a 100% hardcore fan gig somewhere hidden and kept well secret, then surely they can play Secret Journey, I Burn For You, Omegaman, etc. However, I am sure the majority of the people at an everyday concert would not know the songs... and that is not why they paid their (overpriced) tickets. The music industry has to make money and satisfy the customers, and as Sting puts it very correctly (and unfortunately for us hardcore fans), a well oiled machine does not need any amendments. Just my 2 cents ... Karel

The earlier posting was quite on the spot with respect to a contradiction. I have long thought this is a Sting contradiction as he likes to say keep it fresh/explore etc and yet the set list remains the same and only slightly different in terms of a solo here or there. Its been the same for Sing shows for years and years so its no shocker only I was hoping for the occasional tune to shake things up a bit. make collecting the live material interesting, see a different show etc etc.
