Hi all, Dietmar asked about press reactions - I always get the UK paper, the Daily Mail, and they often have news items about music, but to my surprise they haven't picked up on the Hall of Fame story at all.I did see an item about The Police playing the HoF ceremony on RollingStone.com,so would assume that they'll have something about it in their next issue. This will be a great story for all the music mags,so I think it'd be worth our looking through them for HoF-related articles this month. An interesting point was mentioned - the fact that Sting doesn't want to do the Mandela concert because he'll be busy preparing for his new tour and album.Today I got the official fanclub's magazine in the post, and Tina's column mentioned that the new album was expected to be out around September/October 2003.Previously any mention of the album I've seen on the web has been accompanied by the (admittedly rough) date of "Spring 2003",with a single out in February or March.Just out of curiosity, when is the Mandela concert happening?I'm wondering if this apparant change of release time for the album would change things with that? Or perhaps they decided against releasing the album in the Spring because of possible comparisons between that and his Police music/days,given that Spring is when the HoF induction is happening?Or,and I don't think it's likely, but want to throw it in anyway, could it be that the album being released later in the year would give him more of a chance to do a couple of other concerts with Stewart and Andy? As to the debate about the practicalities of going to concerts and special events,I'd agree that wanting it enough won't always get you the chance;circumstances do intervene which are beyond our control,be it health, family commitments,last-minute things stopping us travelling to try and get into shows. But I'm glad that some people on the list are getting there, and to other special shows like this;at least we can have their reviews and gossip of the night then, and the VH1 showing of it later... All the best, Angeline

Jeremy, I don't think anyone here begrudges your hard work and good luck in getting good seats and great encounters at so many events. I, for one, think its great and love to hear everyone's close encounter stories, and their experiences in getting good seats and getting to out of the way shows. I have even made my own luck and had a few wonderful Sting encounters myself. But, I think the issue here is that you seem to be pretty cavalier about saying that anyone can accomplish this if they want it enough. You said, " It just comes down to dedication, if you really want to be there, you will find a way of being there......if you want it bad enough, and are resourceful, then there is always a way to get to these things. It is not luck it is just hard work, sometimes it is cash, sometimes it means sleeping in Central park overnight to get the front row." I daresay most of us probably work at jobs where you are expected to be there 5 days a week, 8 hrs a day, and get 2 or 3 weeks off a year, which you have to request and get approved ahead of time. Is this the kind of job you have? Do you call in sick for a couple of days everytime a Sting show comes up? Airfare is quite expensive, especially if you are booking it on short notice, and if you are taking so much time off from work, calling in sick or whatever, you probably have even less money to pay the high price of airfare. How do you manage that aspect ? A lot of us have kids. I guess you probably don't. I would love to follow Sting around, go to multiple shows, get to know everyone , and be privy to inside info and good seats, but that would mean in addition to taking so much time off from my job that I would end up being fired, and spending exhorbitant money on short notice airfares, and spending the extra cash to ensure good seats, not to mention hotels, etc, I would have to find someone to stay with my kids while I was away. I think it's a little insulting and disingenuous to say "if you really want to be there you will find a way". I DO really want to be there. Maybe you can help me find a way? marilyn

Folks, I think it is really sad that some of you have taken the stance you have on this. The first posting started with a message saying "No real fans will see the gig", or something to that effect, so I replied with, well I consider myself a real fan, and I am getting to go.
I then posted a little session of how we manage to acheive some of the things we do, and rather than inspiring some of you, most of you decided to get pissed about it.
I am willing to bet come time of the concert, that about 10-20 of us will get in to this show, and it wont involve loads of money, it wont involve knowing band members, it will just happen.
You guys don't seem to understand this, Fred, Andrea, Giovanni, Lydia, Jutta, Me, Debs, Ross, Margie, Maggie, plus a whole host of others that go to these shows, none of us have high paying jobs (sorry guys...), all of us have commitments, jobs, rents to pay.
I have spent about 3 hours a day since I got tickets for Deb and I trying to get more tickets for others. When Central park happened, Fred ran around like a lunatic trying to get more for many of you. Together Fred and I ran around like fools trying to get everyone tickets for Tuscany never mind the countless others, this is not exclusive, we all want to help, yet many of you take offense...
I believe I have said this before, if you work all the time, and you don't manage to do the special things like going to shows etc, what is the point to working ? I work about 50 hours a week, and I would be seriously pissed off if after all that work, I couldnt do the things that I want to do.
For those I seem to have offended, I apologize
Jeremy

What? who said that? I've been reading all the e-mails (or so I thought). Who wrote only true fans will go to the HOF? I think there must be a misunderstanding somewhere as no here would suggest that (at least I find that hard to believe).
I mean read the note that I thought it referred to, backwards, forwards, sideways' and inside out and nowhere does he even suggest that only real fans go to these things so obviously I'm missing something. Or is someone putting words in someone else's mouth because of Jealousy?
Can someone forward me the note in question?
Ross

I was a police fan from 1978 onwards untill sting decided he wanted to go off at playing solo!. But the fact is that this man has been living off the "legend"of the police since he left the band. Why would he want to reform ,when he already plays police hits all the time and he relies on former police fans to keep his bank balance healthy. you have got to admit his solo work isn't a patch on police material (my opinion) that mans ego split up a band that still had one good album in them at least, but because people still buy his solo stuff ,he has no reason to reform the police . the equation is simple ego=solo stuff /no solo stuff = police reunion
this is only my opinion,so if you feel like you need to abuse me for them dont bother because the delete is within my reach "the police have left the building" end
