I haven't even tried to listen to it, honestly. I respect him for trying, but (echoing you here) it's not my thing either. I'm probably going to get slammed for this, but this reminds me of how I felt watching Fiction Plane. I went in really wanting to like them, but I just wasn't impressed. I kept listening thinking & hoping the next song would be the one that hooked me, but nope. Not only did I think their sound was average and bland, but I thought Joe was the weakest member of the band. (Running away to avoid things being thrown at me.)
