Ahem.
Regular readers of this list will recall that I met Sting in April 2005 and asked him to sing "What Are You Doing The Rest of Your Life" and he said he would sing it for me and 5 months later it was the single on Chris Botti's "To Love Again" CD.
Well.
Tonight I saw Chris Botti and his band in concert at a fabulous venue right here in my little college town (State College, PA). The show was, simply, incredible. He looked and sounded amazing, and his band was great! He had a wonderful drummer whom he said he chose because he wanted a drummer that would make Sting jealous! The drummer, James Genus, was indeed incredible, as was his bass player, who has been with the Saturday Night Live band for 7 years; his pianist, who was also amazing; his guitarist, who was ridiculously talented and funny; and his guitarist's cousin, who was the vocalist! He spent a lot of time talking to a young kid in the front row who was a budding drummer, and at the end of the show the drummer gave his sticks to the kid! I was in row 6.
But I digress.
After the show, he was in the lobby signing autographs. Making my way ever so delicately to the front of the line ("Move it or lose it, lady!"), there he sat on a barstool, surrounded by fans, a pile of Sharpies, and his road manager, Jeremy (more about Jeremy in a minute).
Having planned what I would say, I said to him, "I had to come tonight to thank you, not only for helping to make my fondest dream come true, but for making it immeasurably better. I am the fan who asked Sting to sing "What Are You Doing The Rest of Your Life."
His mouth dropped, he said, "You're kidding!!!" and I said,
"No, it's true, you can look it up on brushwithfame.com!",
and at that point Jeremy the road manager said," Yeah, it's true, that's my friend from Vancouver Ross's site."
"You know Ross?" I said to Jeremy.
"Ross and I went to school together", Jeremy replied.
At which point, Chris Botti jumped off the barstool to hug and kiss ME.
(I will pause here while you gasp. I'm still shaking!)
"How did you find out about the song?" he said.
"I saw it on Sting.com, and I almost broke my daughter's eardrums screaming into the phone when I saw it!", I replied. He laughed out loud!
"I wish I had known about this before the show," he said. "I'd have talked about it onstage. Listen, if you're ever at a show again, make sure I know about it, okay?"
I said, "I hope you come back again -- this is a great theater, and your show was just wonderful."
And we hugged and kissed AGAIN.
Of course I had brought along the insert of my "To Love Again" CD, and I said, "I think you need to sign right here," pointing to the space next to the track listing for the song.
He signed it, "To Holly, I can't thank you enough for your idea! C.Botti"
So, if it wasn't for the Police concert coming up in July, I would be leaving Earth now, since I have had two of the most incredible brushes with fame ever, and this planet is running out of things to amaze me!!;-)
