Hi, Do you know where the Sting fans are hanging out these days? Any good message boards or fan sites? Thanks! What's the best place to get it? The amazon version comes with a soundcloud version free, at least mine did, isn't there a way to pull the songs to the iPhone, or does the ghost of Steve Jobs forbid it? I'm all about the Amazon version. The second disc has some days gotten more play than the original album, frankly. On Wed, Nov 13, 2013 at 8:15 AM, Sam Kington <sam@illuminated.co.uk> wrote:
I was listening to samples from The Last Ship this morning, and while I wasn’t initially enthused about it, hearing the accents and the music are making me miss Newcastle a lot. I think I’m going to pick it up. Now the question becomes, where do I get it? The iTunes version has 14 tracks, but it looks like there’s an Amazon version with 20. I’d like to buy on iTunes simply for the convenience, but is the Amazon version that much better? What tracks would I miss out on? Is there another, better place to buy that has a better version?
I love the convenience of iTunes, but I kinda miss the days of just buying a CD, too. :P "It's Not The Same Moon", "Hadaway" and "Show Some Respect" are very much worth getting, and are on the iTunes deluxe version but not the standard iTunes version. "Shipyard" and "Sky Hooks and Tartan Paint" aren't particularly my cup of tea, but are full of Geordie accents so might be worth it for you.
"Peggy's Song" on the Amazon version is well worth getting. The other two tracks are less interesting. "Jock the Singing Welder" is decent enough but I skip it these days; Sting performed it live on Jools Holland so you may be able to find it online. The original version of Practical Arrangement is interesting only as a curiosity; it has Jo Lawry singing Meg's part, but I think the song works better if it's just a creepy psychopath grooming a young woman - and I suspect Sting decided that early on, as the "original version" doesn't have a horn section.
