I've got mixed feelings about the stories in the local press (the Sunday Life) which suggest they'll play Belfast on Sunday, 22nd June, probably Ormeau Park. The reports seem credible (despite the story being from a tabloid - I've been hearing about the licences being granted for that outdoor event for some time), though it sounds like it's not an entirely done deal:

What gets me is that this is the first time they've ever played Belfast and I spent a lot of money on train tickets, accommodation and sundry expenses so I could see them (for which I assumed would be the only opportunity) in Dublin in October. I imagine a lot of fans in Northern Ireland have similarly mixed feelings, though this at least makes it easier and cheaper for Scottish fans to come and see the band, compared to the slog of getting to London or Continental Europe.
Of course I'm delighted if they're coming here; it's always been a dream and I didn't think it'd happen once I realised that we don't have a stadium on the scale that they've been playing (there are plans, with two suggested sites, but politics have made the whole thing a long-running farce). And when I made my monetary arrangements for Dublin, the tour was expected to end with the end of 2007 and nobody would've guessed they'd extend it like they did.
As it is, there's no way I can afford to go. What I am hoping is that Fiction Plane will still be attached to the tour and will do one of their pub/club gigs in Belfast, as has happened in other cities - that wouldn't be outside the realms of financial possibility. Hmmm...
