Fellow Stingers,

Let me preface this by saying that NO ONE is a bigger fan of Sting's music than I.  I grew up with the music of the Police.  My tastes matured with Sting's solo work.  I can think of only two or three songs from Police and Sting albums that I dislike.  Sting is by far my favorite artist.

That said, "Send Your Love" is a BAD song.  Sting is making a blatant commercial grab, putting out a simple, marketable song that will be played in clubs, that will sell his album.  "Send Your Love" has no artistic content.

I hope that "Send Your Love" is comparable to "We'll Be Together," another artistically bare song that prefaced an otherwise breathtaking album.  "We'll Be Together" was used to sell Nothing Like the Sun.  As a first single, the song's discordance did not fit the atmospheric beauty of the album's other songs, but it did generate noise on the dance charts.  If true music fans are lucky, "Send Your Love" will likewise be a rhinestone among a collection of musical gems.

I'm disappointed in the first single, but as a longtime Sting fan, I have confidence that the rest of the album will offer redemption.
