Hey guys! I just wanted to put down in words (or attempt to do so) my thoughts after seeing the show just yesterday. I was very fortunate to receive it from an out-of-town friend of Jeff's who was very kind to record it from VH1 for me (not available in Canada unless you can "acquire" the Dish Network in one manner or another ;-). Despite the variety of less than enthusiastic comments re: Gwen Stefani, I found that she came very close to expressing exactly how I felt about the band when I first heard them in 1983. I was 14 years of age that summer, and became a complete fanatic in a matter of weeks. The Police catalogue were among the very first tapes (ughh, so analog) that I ever bought with my early babysitting earnings. It brought tears to my eyes & a lump to my throat to think back on those sweet days of youth (yes, very corny but also very true).... It does seem hard to accept that 20 years have come & gone, and that the music of our collective favorite band has stood the test of time. The many teasers re: the Police's performance throughout the show gave me pause to reflect on this fact. Personally, I thought that it was wonderful that someone who was just as star-struck & in awe of the Police as I was at the time should be able to induct them into the HOF. Particularly as I have always been of the opinion that, of all of the musical acts that emerged in the '90's, No Doubt seemed very reminiscent of white reggae/ska bands & quite possibly must have been influenced by the Police (which I suppose the Superbowl performance demonstrated nicely). Anyway, enjoyed it fully & thankful that MIAB is available to view. Hope that the whole show will be available on DVD with bios for the various acts & "behind the scenes" footage. All of those extra features that make DVD's the wonderful medium that they are. Wistfully basking in the last performance of my all-time favorite band, Anne
