Don't let anyone fool you, electric guitar is easier to play by far as opposed to acoustic or classical, I learned on an electric guitar, I learned off a simple chord book called rock chords and how to use them. I started playing drums incidently and was always glad I did because it gave me the basics of rhythm without the thrown in complication of Pitch, in college I taught myself to play guitar, it actually came real easy and I thank the drums for giving me the rhytmic foundation. Now, I am no Andy Summers, but I do keep myself and others at times entertained on the guitar. I watch alot of kids and they don't have the patience for guitar, YET!!!! If you get him drums, God Help YOU!! He will enjoy bashing them and being a KID, and when he gets a bit older he can avenue into pitch related instruments like guitar or piano. I have an eight month old boy myself and I think I will take this route with him, the kids arms are flying all over the place, kids just are born with the drums in them. It worked for me and I say that most humbly. Best Wishes. ...since my goal is to get my kid to play Sting/Police songs!
A couple questions for you guitar buffs out there. My 7 year old is dying to play the guitar. He just started lessons with the teacher's Baby Taylor acoustic guitar. I'm not about to shell out $300 for one not knowing if this is just a whim for him.
Would it be TERRIBLE for him to learn on an electric guitar? (Of course this is his ultimate goal) My neighbor just lent me a Fender for him to use. If you think it's not a good idea to start that way, what starter guitar would you recommend? We tried one of those $50 kids deals and it was HORRIBLE. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Sorry to use the list for this, hope you don't mind. Please reply privately, I'm sure not everyone is interested in my latest task at hand.
Michelle
