Actually, it *is* on another CD..... all the tracks from the 12" are all on an EXTREMELY RARE (which is such an understatement) CD-Video promo entitled Don't Stand So Close To Me (Cat. No. A&M 002). Back in the mid-1980s, as the compact disc medium made its debut and was *slowly* starting to take off (a lot of people felt like they didn't want to re-purchase their record collections) with the consumer, several record labels experimented with a format called "CD Video." The gold-colored discs contained 3 to 4 audio tracks, playable in your home compact disc player, as well as a video track playable in home laser disc players. They took a few of the most well-known artists at the time (I personally have only seen two Police issues and one U2 issue, so I'm not sure about the others, although I've heard there were a few other artists featuring this medium) and pressed something like 50-100 of these demo CDs to try to get this format to catch on, both with record manufacturers and electronics companies. Unfortunately it didn't, since at the time laser disc players were extremely high in price, and the format eventually disappeared. In any event, the 12" version of this song (i.e. the "Dance Mix") is on this CDV, along with the extremely rare live Police version of the original. (although there is a good chance that whatever you heard off of the radio could have been transferred by the station from vinyl to DAT audio or something) The worst part about these CD-Video discs is that they STILL don't play the video portion in your DVD player... even to this day, you still need to own a laser disc player. The Dance mix was one of the b-sides to the 12" single for DSSCTM 86'. It wasn't on the promo CD single. On CD, as far as I know, it's only on the box set (but not the North American one). I got my box set in the UK - it's on there.

Is there an easier place to get this than the German (right?)
version of the box set? It had me hooked from the intro... and *quite* a guitar solo by Andy! Is it me, or does it seem to be a bit of a departure for him?
I'm tellin' ya, this marathon is going to be the downfall of my
checking account :)
