Hi other Ross, I'm not worried about my parents liking Sting's music at all. I'm thrilled that my dad loves Fields of Gold and Fragile. If you asked him who sings those songs though he probably couldn't tell you as he likely heard them on the Easy Rock radio station he normally listens to. Now when I played a Police track for my dad a few years back, he told me to turn it off. I'd go out on a limb and say your dad is way cooler than my dad because he'd actually go out and buy Outlandos. My dad might think Outlandos was the name of a new SUV. I'd also say that it's relative because my dad is probably much older than your dad. If your dad is a senior citizen I'll take it all back. My question is - since when did a lot of Sting's audience become as old and older than Sting is? It's not necessarily a bad thing - i just never noticed it before and figure it may be related to the kind of music he's producing these days. My dad is why I got into the Police and Sting. Of course, he told me how he was first introduced to "So Lonely" from the Synchronicity video and how dissappointed he was when he finally bought Outlandous and heard the album version. So, my dad enjoys the higher energy songs as well. Must be because he was a drummer.
