Holy cow. I agree with this so much that for a second I thought I'd written it (although I like "Why Should I Cry For You," minor caveat. I, too, think that the only career hat-trick Sting could possibly pull at this point is a Police blockbuster reunion tour--plus he's admitted he's stuck in writer's block, as he was in 1986, *and* this proposed reunion seems to coincide with a backwards-looking phase for all three guys. At any rate, I agree with you about ALL FOR LOVE. Basically that was the moment I stopped trusting. :-) Christopher (um, still in Texas) --- omaha perez <drudion@yahoo.com> wrote:
Giovanni,
I could not disagree with you more on the points quoted below from your email. Sting has clearly made truckfulls of money as a solo artist and clearly doesn't "need" to reunite with The Police but I contend that his ego will eventually REQUIRE it. As a diehard Police/Sting fan all through my teens in the 80s... I first began really "Losing Faith" in the man when he did that awful "All For One" song with Bryan Adams and Rod Stewart (though I've got to admit I first started to worry about him when I heard the tacky Phil Collins-esque ballad drum fill on "Why Should I Cry For You" from Soul Cages). Did he need the money or the boost to his celebrity status? Not only did he let Puff Daddy tarnish "EBYT" and "Roxanne", he basically endorsed it by performing with him on MTV. Who else did he perform with on MTV? Was it Backstreet Boys or NSYNC? Same to me.
To me these forays of Sting's seem to be either A.) all about the money or B.) all about boosting his already super star status. If Sting is looking for another massive payday, The Police reunion is the biggest one he can pull. If it's all about status, touring The Police will bring back the many fans like myself who abandoned his solo act (at least for The Police tour if not for his future solo records and tours). For many, many people, fans and critics alike, reuniting The Police could bring back some much needed credibility.
When is the last time The Police or Sting (solo) received so much major media coverage? From the attention it's getting and the rabid response on the web there is clearly a huge public desire for The Police tour to happen. I hope it does.
And Toni, not funny!

- Sting would love to be on stage with The Police, but his career, his name and his ego do not allow him to do something that the critics would name as nostalgia or even worst 'be back with The Police as Sting's career falling down'; Sting is enough intellingent not to leave them say something like this;
- Sting can come back on stage with The Police only if there is a reason (an excuse I would say, and I do perfectly understand it) that can avoid what said before, so that the >medias cannot pretend to say it's nostalgia or any other reason;
