Dear Chris,

Clear Channel is the monster that has bitten Sting .... the only ones to be blaimed is Sting's management that started working with those people, and if the information is correct to what I have heard, Sting is not that happy neither with them ... after all, Clear Channel is destroying the way concerts are being promoted and organised, and are being priced ... and has made a fan event into a business event.

Sting and Kathy Shenker most probably already had a nice talk on that ....

Cheers, K

Subject: Re: [Police] Money for Something

Hey don't get me wrong, Gates has got the money and I'm all for a free, open market.

However, if you don't think Sting is fleecing his fans with outrageous ticket prices, costly merchandise and fan club fees then you obviously think he's worth it. That's your opinion as a fan. Nothing wrong with that or the satisfaction of getting your money's worth. I too was quite happy paying whatever the ticket cost was for many years.

I'm saying that right now, I don't think he's worth it and most of the critics in most of the cities in North America agree. He used to be worth it, but not anymore to me. That's my humble opinion. Sting came to Toronto 3 times this year. Smart business move since the market demand was there. I'm a little more cynical than you I guess and certainly couldn't afford to go to all 3 shows as a fan. I've seen him do better shows for less money and I'd be real disappointed if I could afford him and he did 8 songs off of MF, BND or SL.

I'd like to know if you guys think it would it be great business sense if he played for anyone who had the money? Morally, I wouldn't play for an arms dealer for example, no matter how rich or poor I was and I certainly wouldn't feel stupid not taking it. Obviously Sting's old accountant didn't think he was that smart when it came to money. How do you lose a few million here and there anyway and not know about it?

If it's all about money and all one cares about is getting the most money for the least amount of work... well, I think there's lots of other things in life that can make you rich.

By the way, has Sting added I Burn For You to his set list yet, or are we still waiting for that elusive fan club "surprise"?

Oh give me a break.

This sounds like great business sense more than greed.

No matter how rich you are, if someone gave you a million dollars to sing 8 songs, you would be incredibly stupid not to take it!

I would think Sting was a jackarse for not accepting that invitation.

Sting is smart, not stupid, he's not mother Teresa.

Take the money and run.

If Shaq and Tiger woods can get 20 million dollars from Nike for an endorsement, who the hell is Sting not to take his million?

Later

Not sure if you'll find this one on Sting's official website as I'm too lazy to check. He's not only one lucky bastard, but a greedy one too! Hope he makes a lovely donation to the rain forest. :) Let the sell-out/ not a sell-out thread begin!!

Microsoft head Bill Gates is reportedly paying just under $500,000 to have Sting perform a handful of songs (I heard it was 8) at his upcoming 50th birthday party. The party is to take place later this month at the uber-swanky Supper Club in New York...

Veteran rocker Sting will earn a staggering $486,000 (€380,000) this month, when he plays at a party being thrown by Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates.

The former Police frontman will play just eight songs at the New York event, thereby earning $60,750 (€47,500 )per track.

Gates, 49, is hosting the bash at the city's Supper Club to celebrate his 50th birthday.
