David, If you want to have a genuine good discussion, please refrain from the childish digs about my using drugs to get your point across. If you can't treat the postings on this list with respect, then from now on I will refrain from answering your emails. Take Care, Terrence Sheehan PS Apparently you missed my E-mail about Sting being perfect on A&E. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David" <whayuhsay@yahoo.com> To: <police@xmission.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 27, 2001 5:26 AM Subject: Re: [Police] Re: [stingus] Re: Oysterhead HBO Go Stewart !!!!!
Hey Terrence, I think Stewart is an excellent drummer but to suggest Mr "Mrs Gradenko" could ever inspire Sting musically is a joke. Stewart's choice in this band called Oysterhead was a big surprise. I see it as major regression. You call that band and his playing energy, I call it noise that after 20 minutes gives me a headache, maybe I am getting old or something.
I find it hilarious you really believe Stewart can make Sting reinvent himself, are you serious, are you on some type of drug? Stewart is an excellent rock drummer but even with the Police he rarely varied his style, seemed very one dimensional. I couldn't see Stewart keeping timing on "Hung my Head" as confident as Vinnie handled that song or the many other jazz songs. In fact I might not be surprised if Stewart broke his hand and legs trying to keep the 5/4 timing on Hung My Head.
To the person who mentioned Vinnie complimented Stewart, that is basic respect expected in the music world.
Folks, as musicians grow, you never see them move from jazz to rock unless it's Branford with Sting (then again that was not rock), but you always musicians moving towards jazz. So for Stewart to really have any hope of reinventing Sting, he better learn some jazz licks, because Sting surely is not going to be paying that young boy punk rock garbage you kids here are so quick to classify as music, or ultimate music.
It does not matter what polls you take on this board, let's do a poll in the jazz or classical world, complex, interesting music, and do a comparison with Stewart and Vinnie, you would give those guys the biggest laugh in the world, that is if they even know who Stewart Copeland is.

Well it has the energy of the Police that I have so missed in Stings music, I guess it is the energy that Stewart supplies that just blows me away. Effortless Power!!! Oysterhead has grown on me and has that energy. I realized it watching A&E the other night, Sting is much more an orchestra leader these days, and less a Rock musician. As soon as Stewart plays with Sting again I'm sure the music will burn anew. I can only hope for that, I believe Sting will someday, you can only slow down so far, Sting will reinvent himself, we all know he will!!! Just wondering what direction that will take. We all have our opinions, but I would'nt criticize > Stewart until you see Oysterhead live, with Oysterhead the live performance is everything,
I managed to catch Reverb the other night-- actually I wasn't looking for it. Out of the corner of my eye...I saw a hand, a drum stick and thought immediately that had to be Stewart. Twenty years of Police fandom, yeah definitely. No one else has his style. He is the show from what I could tell. The musicianship is good, I admit, but the group itself isn't my cup of tea. There has to be more. I have to agree that Stewart's performance deserves to go along with better vocals and lyrics.
