for the record, ms. michelle, mr. objectivity is one of those that thinks SL is a good record. then again, he could have sung the podunk phone book and it would be a better record than BND... rich --- Michele Piumini <piumichele@katamail.com> wrote:
I am so glad the reviews are coming in more negative than ever. As I said before it sucks. Too much with this techno stuff. I checked out that special on A & E. All drum machines. Sting has gotten lazier with every album he has released.
As Mr. Absolute Objectivity here said before, it sucks, as many others say it's a great album. So who's wrong there? I'm not happy when my favourite musicians make albums that I totally dislike (U2's "Pop", to name one) and I'm not glad to hear negative reviews about them. It somehow feels like a good friend has betrayed you, so what's so exciting about knowing others feel *betrayed*? I see both sides of the controversy that's going on. I love Sacred Love not because it's Sting's but because I love it, and my first impulse is trying to *convince* others. But on the other hand it's all a matter of personal taste, so no one can claim to be right. Let me just point out something, though: some fellow listers seem to dislike the new songs BECAUSE of the drum machine in them, regardless of their musical value. Mind you, I'm not a great supporter of drum machine myself (I can't help thinking that Never Coming Home would have been perfect for Stewart's hi-hat) and I'm not one of those who claim that musicians today must use computers because it would be anachronistic not to do it (those of you who have heard, say, the amazing Norwegian acoustic duo Kings of Convenience know what I mean). But let me ask you a question. Try to forget the drum machine for a moment: do you still think Sacred Love lacks any musical value and originality? In other words, would you regard it in the same way if there were no drum machine on it? If the answer is yes, I disagree but respect your opinion, and that's the end of it. If the answer is no, isn't the *drummachinity* of a song a bit of a narrow criterion to judge it? I'm a drummer myself, but I say there's more to a song than drums, whether they're real or fake.
Just my 2 euros Michele
