ripping audio from dvd's is quite simple actually. You should try and rip 5.1 tracks and then separate the tracks into six mono channels. This way you hear each channel by its own and sometimes you have for instance a nearly a capella version with Sting same for Sting's Brand New Day dts cd from 1999. When you separate those tracks.. wow... sometimes you hear things that you've never heard before! can anybody btw tell me if the SACD version of the Police's EBYT-TC has the same 5.1 mixes as the one on the dts cd and 2003 dvd issues? Ron
I hate to bring up a too tired topic, but I've been meaning to write this for a long time.
I finally got around to purchasing a DVD reader for my computer. It took me a day but I figured out how to rip audio from a DVD, edit the wav files and burn an audio cd.
It was the most worthwhile time I've spent in a long time.
I much prefer listening to the DVD version of ... All This Time, and I enjoy the concert from Brand New Day. Now I need to get out and find the acoustic performance from MTV.
But the apex is having a real version of Sacred Love (sorry Sting). While not perfect, the arrangements on the Inside DVD are FAR superior to the CD. I've come to enjoy the songs an order of magnitude more. And the presence of the gems All Would Envy and Like a Beautiful Smile make the package that much better. (By the way, did you know that Chis Botti released a version of All Would Envy about 3 years ago? But that CD is technical dogshit, the mastering is ridiculous, it suffers from loudest cd in the carrol marketing syndrome.)
If you are one of the Sting fans that has become disillusioned because of Sacred Love, and have not heard the DVD renditions then you owe it to yourself. There is still too much use of drum machines, but it seems more forgiveable in this rehearsal type setting. I don't find the drum machine on Inside to be nearly as song destroying as it is in the studio recording. Actually I think the percussion on Inside is one of its high points.
So the point is that I have been very happy listening to MY version of (Really) Sacred Love, from the Inside DVD with all the commentary edited out. I strongly recommend spending the time and making your own version from the DVD, and retire that Sacred Love CD.
All the best!
Mark.
NB1 does anybody have any info on pacific northwest dates? The previous two tours he came here quite early.
NB2 what was that instrument he played at the Oscars? And such a travesty that Into The West won. I thought it was the least interesting tune. Myself, I was pulling for Bellville Rendezvous.
