Neat. It sounds like Sting isn't getting too wrapped up in doing this, like they're really still having a good time and taking things as they come. Glad to hear it was such a great time! Did Stew give any input? I wonder if he was just itching to take a poke at Sting's ego :-) although it sounds like they're working more as a team. Well, the Montreal show was certainly a strange one. As expected, Sting was really struggling with his voice. He was blowing his nose constantly. In fact, he TALKED the opening lyrics to Message…I thought "Oh man, we're in trouble!!!" He hit funny notes from time to time throughout the show that clearly even surprised him (at times he obviously had no idea what sound was going to come out of his throat). At other times, however, his voice was great, if a bit raspy. He high the high notes in Truth, for example. Crazily, they dropped BOTH Sync II and Roxanne – so we got 10% less show last night – that was disappointing. Andy screwed up the opening cords to Wrapped (jarringly so) and Sting looked up above him and searched around for the offending noise and said, laughing, "What was that, Andy?"…and a moment or two later said "It sounded like a spaceship," and he looked above his head again like the spaceship might still be coming down from above. Then Sting said "Shall we start again?...OK, Andy, can I sing now?" Very funny – a great moment. In summary, an interesting and weird night, for sure.
Cheers,
Bruce
