This movie was obviously shot in an 4:3 aspect ratio. US DVDs often show both 4:3 and 16:9 versions of the same movie. Take PAYBACK with Mel Gibson for example - this movie was shot in 4:3 and it shows MORE of the picture as the widescreen movie version. The intention was always to cut the top and bottom parts off for movie theatre presentation. Some movies are shot in an anamorphic widescreen ratio. When these are shown 4:3 then there are bits at the sides missing. Luckily enough this was a habit of the 70s and 80s and thanks to the DVD we are used to seeing the original picture formats nowadays!

But the old 4:3 version of BRING ON THE NIGHT shows MORE at top and bottom.

Hi Dietmar,

Isn't the DVD version the same as the one that was shown in the theaters?
I would think that the VHS showed a little less at the side.
