I signed up for the first time yesterday, even though I've been a Sting fan since 1985..... I must admit, $65 per year... ($20 extra for the benefit of a CD-ROM - do we get a new CD-ROM every year as well??), seems very expensive, though we'll see if it's worth it during the first year....
From what I've heard though, there aren't 'fan club CD's' made available (of concert recordings etc?)
I joined the Crowded House club a couple of years ago, and it cost £30 for lifetime membership, which included a free fan club CD, and every couple of months, you get a 'sales sheet' with loads of photos, CD's, T-Shirts etc for sale. I've built up a collection of about 25 fan club CD's, which are all rarities, unreleased tracks, demo's, live recordings etc, and some REALLY great material that I'd never have the chance to hear otherwise, so that seems great value for money...... But $65 for the Sting fanclub - which grants me access to a bulletin board, screensavers, wallpaper, streaming previews of the forthcoming album (which admittedly is a bonus).... ?? I _am_ looking forward to getting early access to tickets for when his tour kicks off next year, but as I only get to see him at Birmingham UK, and apart from the Compaq area on the last tour, I've always managed to get front row seats _without_ being in the fanclub (And not been limited to 2 at a time!).... Am I the only one in wondering if the high annual cost is worth it? I'm sure many of you have good things to say for the fanclub... So I'd love to hear them... What have YOU got for your money? I mailed them about it last night, since I'd renewed my membership not long ago, and from what Tina says, it looks like the £10 I paid then is okay if I just want to continue with the offline (I guess the mag will continue to be sent out then), or if I decide to, I can use the £20 discount on joining this new club. She also gave me the promo number to key in, which is basically my old membership number with some more letters and numbers in front of it. I guess I'll sign up for it tomorrow.
