an R&B trio called Blaque is going to sample Wrapped Around Your Finger in one of their upcomming songs which I think will be called "Bliss." I think this is a female trio. The little blurb in the newspaper called >it "Sting's Wrapped Around Your Finger." Excuse me, doesn't anyone (other than us) remember that the Police were a band??? And a great band, at that!?!
Yeah, really. I guess Sting had to approve of this sampling of the song then? I wish he wouldn't. I was talking the other day with a friend about sampling and how it never works. It always sounds like you have spliced two songs together with *no rellation to each other* in terms of rhythm. It doesn't matter how well it's mixed (it's still like puting water and oil in a glass together). I think of songs as well-crafted stories--with their own time (era), and rhythm (timing). You take a set of chords and you build around them. It's a signature that no one else can believably use as their own. You can argu that someone younger might not have heard the sampled song. That still doesn't matter, because anyone who is sensitive at all to a disruption in a song's rhythm will know "hey that's a sample". The only positive thing is maybe they'll listen to the original song to compare--and realize it's better. I'm sorry I just don't believe as Sting once commented...that all music has been written. Teri (thanks for letting me get that off my chest) :) ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
