I think it's a pretty fair review from what I've heard (get to see them this weekend at Bonnaroo). I will always be bored by much of Sting's "banter" since it's essentially the same every time. How many times did he make the joke about My Sharona during the Broken Music Tour? Then again at the press conference. I'm not trying to be too negative towards his shtick, but I guess after having seen Barenaked Ladies give the best improv banter ever (seriously one of the most fun concerts I've ever attended, even if you don't care for their music), I expect a little more effort. Sting is too locked into this fully rehearsed show business down to a T.
I'm fully expecting to see some of the luster gone, but I'm still really excited to see the band. I know I might seem negative, but ever since February, it's been total Police around the house. My wife has had to suffer through my Renaissance Period for the Police. My affection for them was at a comfortable level for her when we first started dating. Other than a Sting poster in my room in college (which my roommates constantly gave me crap for), she hasn't witnessed too much until now.
By the way, I'm trying to put a roadtrip CD together for Bonnaroo. My buddies and I are having a contest. We each make 2 mix CDs, and the best CD gets bragging rights for the rest of the weekend. I've been thinking about starting the CD with The Song Remains the Same by Led Zep, but I can't find a song to properly follow it. Anyone have any good Rolling Stones suggestions? I can probably also only include 1 Police tune in the mix. What would you all suggest? They're the guys that gave me crap throughout college for the Sting poster, so I can't get too weird. I'm thinking either MIAB or Synchronicity II. Any suggestions?
Hopefully I didn't (or don't) waste anyone's time too much. Thank you all in advance.
The Other Ross
