First off, if someone could resend me the original story/weblink that set this all of, I'd greatly appreciate it. Yes, Omaha i right, The Jam and Paul Weller as a soloist are great. I got into Weller as a solo artist first, back when WILDWOOD came out. A fantastic record. And, in the past 6 months, I have been HEAVY into The Jam...used to despise them, now I cannot stop playing them. (Here's some more tunes to add to the great ones Ohama listed: "Down In The Tube Station At Midnight"; "Pretty Green"; "Girl On The Phone"; "Start!" Anyway...it seems that everyone from the late-70s time period disliked each other. Numerous times over the years we have heard Elvis Costello knock Sting; I have heard/read Weller do it too. And I have heard more than a few Sting quotes mocking The Clash. Can't we all just get alone...and admit how great one's peers are? Rich --- omaha perez <drudion@yahoo.com> wrote:
I've got to quote from my reply to this same subject from the sc.net board:
"I'm not convinced this really happened but even if it did, I don't care. I'm a fan of The Police and of Weller (actually I'll take solo Weller over solo Sting - sorry!). What do I care if they like each other? Joe Strummer used to slam The Police, Elvis used to slam Sting all the time - that didn't keep me from liking their music.
I particularly like Weller's first 2 solo albums - the self titled one and Wildwood. They're right up there with the best Jam records in my opinion. I've seen him live a number of times and he has an amazing voice and puts on a great show."
And great Jam songs right off the top of my head... "To Be Someone", "English Rose", "That's Entertainment", "Pretty Green", "Billy Hunt", "Mr. Clean"...

Weller - think the Jam and Style Council and the ubiquitous Mod concentric circles of orange/white/blue - he was part of Mod revival
The Jam is sometimes promoted as most popular English punk band in the 70s - you'd go to show and see the Clash, the Jam and the Buzzcocks... Weller got into Motown and is sooooo mild I'm suprised he isn't compared to Sting - The Jam I think outsold the Clash but if you asked me to name even ONE of their songs I'd be at a loss, but the Clash now, they're on my iPod many times over.
How do I know so much about him? He's plastered all over my son's bedroom! He's more of a hero in England than an international star.
