Drum machines was used cause Stewart had broken his arm or wrist and had to recruit the help of a drum machine for these sessions.... I actually feel that although you could clearly hear it wasn't Stewart playing...but it was a fresh approach to upgrade these 2 magnificent songs ... many miles away... Similar drums patterns, nothing like the way Stewart plays normally. I asked Andy about it when he toured down here in 2001. I remember he looked incredulous when asked as if to say where did I get a copy of it, and he confirmed it came from the 86 sessions. Cheers from down here! It's got that same "poppy" feel as DSSCTM '86, same drum machine sounds, and to me it does not sound like it has the energy of the earlier Police recordings nor the rawness of Sting's demos. It's a very polished and subdued version of the song....much more along the lines of the '86 sound....and if you listen carefully at the end, you can hear Sting "whoo ooohing" the DSSCTM tune, which would also make me think it was recorded at the same time....just my thoughts. This is the demo of De Do Do Do that Sting recorded a few years before that. When they were working on The Police greatest hits CD that was released in the DTS format they couldn't find the original masters of De Do Do Do. So they worked on the demo. This is what I've heard and I think it makes sense. The so called '86 version is too rough to be a final Police track. unfortunately, I don't have DTS :(
Is there any way to create a 44KHz, high bitrate copy of this, or is there some restriction with DTS?
Perhaps it will be worth it to find a copy of the DTS disc.
Thanks!

You should be able to find it on the DTS release of the greatest hits album, but you'll need DTS capable gear to play it. I, too, have been unable to find a decent copy of this tune. Where might one obtain a good one? I know the German Every Breath You Take recent release had it on there (mistake, right?)...
Ideas?
