After Sting's concert here in Hamburg on Nov 5, Dominic
played a small venue called the "Fabrik" for a beautiful midnight show.
Accompanied by piano, another guitar (Neil Stacey) and percussion, they moved
everyone within minutes. Additionally, around 1 AM, Chris Botti showed up to play a few
songs along, and they all looked rather relaxed than tired - probably they still were more on US time and jetlag kept them awake unti late at night... There was a
certain hope in the air for Sting to pop in and sing Shape or La belle dame.
Personally, I think it was good that he did not come and steal the attention.
These songs were played as well, and now I regret that I do not have a recording of that La belle
instrumentale dame... He played a nice selection of his 4 albums, some of them
close to the studio version, others real different. He also played some
compositions by J.S. Bach, which make a show like this very special to
me. Listing to his Bach versions, I find it difficult to imagine that 4
hours earlier he played along with Sting...
He also mentioned how much he enjoys to tour with Sting for his
"day job - which is a very good day job", seeing amazing countries and meeting
fantastic people, and one could see that getting the feedback of listeners in
small places like the Fabrik really means a lot to him.
I strongly recommend to see further shows Dom might be doing
after a Sting concert! 90 minutes for 18 Euros,
what a bargain!! Sting ticket holders (who paid 54 Euros to see the whole gang 4
hours earlier) got 3 Euros off - does this imply that Dom gets about 3
Euros of each Sting ticket sold in Europe ?? I hope for him this is true
.-)
Surprises for me were - "for the ladies", as Dom said
with a smile - Abba's "The winner takes it all", and, as an encore, a beautiful
"Bring on the night / When the world"
German station NDR2 recorded it
with several cam's, and they announced a "special" on TV. or on DVD?
Anybody has more info?

Sorry for the mail
sent now, 3 weeks after his show here in HH. I was off sailing and passed
Montserrat last week. Being there, I had to think of the Police songs recorded
there, then of Sting and then of Dominic... Sometimes it's strange how
situations and places make memories pop up and let you feel close to people you
never met, but who have been with you one way or the other half of your
life.
