I saved this in my "DRAFTS" folder and forgot about it... so here is my report from Andy's book signing, over a week ago. A quick book signing report. Andy showed up at 12:30 sharp today for his interview and book signing at the LA Times Book Festival. As the interviewer pointed out, "This will be Andy's smallest crowd of the year". He was relaxed and happy (if a bit jet lagged) after spending the past month in Italy. During the interview, Andy was typically funny, charming, and irreverent. He spoke for an hour, and I wish I had been smart enough to tape the interview (did anybody record this?). Andy was particularly keen to read some passages from his book, which went over very well with the audience. Afterward, Andy signed his book "One Train Later" for about 30 minutes. The security said that he would only sign his book, but a few fans got other books, CDs and other things signed. I am bad at meeting people I hugely admire. I tend to turn into a shy child. But I did manage the following pithy exchange with Andy: ME: "I have been waiting 24 years to see The Police live and I can't wait" ANDY: "As of three days ago, it's been sounding great" So there you have it.
