The answer to the Molly Ringwald question is.........drum roll please....... For Keeps In this movie, Molly's character gets pregnant at 17 (gasp). She and her boyfriend get married and decide to have the baby. At their senior prom (!) they are discussing possible names for the baby. They are on "S" names. Molly's character suggests a couple of girl names. Her husband suggests "Stewart" and then "Sting." He doesn't mention Stewart "Copeland," but I've always felt that he followed Stewart with Sting because he was in a Police frame of mind. Clearly, the world needs a refresher course in Molly Ringwald 101. I'll be taking sign ups soon. Maggie

odd awards

OK - here's what I find odd. The Kate and Leopold soundtrack won't even be in stores until Feb. 5. At least that's what I've read. By that time, the movie will only be in a few remaining theaters (and I'm sorry, it was a fairly forgettable movie, anyway). Who is going to buy a soundtrack from a movie that's already left the radar screen (except for a few crazy Sting fans. Where DO these people come from?!?!) Have you ever seen a soundtrack and a movie be released so far apart?? Often, the soundtrack actually comes out before the movie. Kind of generates interest, duh. Kate and Leopold opened Christmas week. By the time the soundtrack is available, it will have been 6 weeks later. I just find it odd that Sting won for a song that 99.9% of the population hasn't heard. Oh well, another award for Mickey to use as a paperweight. And hell, Behind My Camel won a Grammy, and you know most people just fast forwarded through that on their cassette. And....is it just me, or are romantic comedies not very romantic and not very funny lately??? Kate and Leopold, Serendipity, American Sweethearts, etc. All pretty lame. Last really good romantic comedy....Four Weddings and a Funeral (which DOES feature a Sting song for you purists out there.) 50 bonus points to the person who can name the Sting song on the soundtrack. Speaking of soundtracks, it's a shame the version of Shape of My Heart from The Professional with the beautifully long beginning by Dominic was never released. I'm sorry but I absolutely, completely agree with every word Fred said. I was THRILLED when he won the Golden Globe. Why on earth would the possibly be an allegation that he won because it was fixed? He wins awards because he earns and deserves them, because he is an extremely talented man ....... talented as a composer, as an arranger, as a musician, and as a lyricist. PERIOD. This is coming from someone who for the first half of the tour was CONVINCED that Danny Q pressed a "magic button" on his laptop to sustain Sting's tantric "...tomorrow we'll seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..."! ; -) I jest, Jer! But seriously, Sting won the Golden globe fair and square. I don't see why people on this list would want to taint his award. People have complained about him not having written new material in a while, and when he finally does, he comes up with a sweet little waltz, wins a Golden Globe for it, and his fans call the whole thing a fix... I knew he would win the Golden Globe, the song had great potential. I would have had my doubts had he won for Funny Friend, but that neither grabbed the GG nor the Oscar. The GG's are not based on popularity or box office numbers. The fact that a lot of people aren't familiar with the song has no bearing on the quality of the song. Are people more familiar with the other nominated songs? I doubt so. I haven't heard Vanilla Sky because I boycott Tom Cruise, I missed Enya's song at the end of The Lord Of The Rings because of a bladder issue, and will probably not get around to see Kate & Leopold. But I assume most people who saw K&L also heard Until. I am thrilled for Sting's Golden Globe, as was he. He really didn't expect it, judging from his reaction (and his manager's) and his speech. I said a while ago that he'd win it, and I predict he'll be nominated for an Oscar, and WIN (if the Academy doesn't give Sir Paul his obligatory vote...) Finally, for those of you who still haven't heard Until, it's readily available on Morpheus, Kazaa, Audiogalaxy etc (the live Regis and Kelly version). I'll try to upload it tonight on my site.
