Now, Let's say you DIDN'T have a ticket, didn't see the show, and didn't bump
into Sting in a museum and went to all that trouble in the hopes of getting
into the show. Would you feel the same way? I think I'd have a real rough
time with it.
The only concert that I really wasn't going to go to because it just wasn't
convenient ended up being my favorite one, I got lucky with my timing. My
fears were the only thing that stopped me from doing what I should have. ( a
martini would have come in handy...)
I ran into Kipper and Chris outside the arena in Portland, Maine and just
said hi and kept on walking. Weird things ran through my head in a matter of
seconds and by the time I turned around to face my fear (them thinking I'm a
groupie, them thinking I'm a weirdo for going to all these shows, etc.,
etc.), they were on their merry way. I then didn't want to walk after them
like a stalker. I've kicked myself ever since then and the only thing that
saved me was Sting...
The show was amazing and at the end, I got a handshake from Sting and a
direct "Thank you for coming" from him. In my own little mind I have to think
he noticed that I had been in the front for the past two shows and was
actually thanking me for making the effort to come to all three. Fat chance,
but let me believe that! So although I wish I had talked with Kipper and
Chris, things turned out just fine and I was happy I made the effort and blew
my family off for yet another show. If it hadn't turned out that way (didn't
get in, didn't bump into K & C--- nothing! I'd be singing a different tune
(traffic up to Maine was going 25 mph at times and I thought I'd miss the
show ... just not a good journey up there).
Pretty sad that just getting a decent spot for the show and a simple gesture
makes my year, but it did! Guess I'm pretty easy to please.
Yes, it's good to take the chance if you have the time/money to take lots of
chances, but if you only have one shot, it'd be an awful big letdown to come
away with nothing. I would have been mortified to go to Italy and be turned
away at the gate! I also don't have the kahuna's to stand there expecting to
be let in, so if you do ... more power to you!!! (not you in particular, but
the general "fandom").
I'm right there with you if they do NYC... I doubt they'd be playing Austin,
TX.
